What can help you find your next role after redundancy? In this Career Confidence conversation, Jodie Coomer shares how the preparation she had already done helped her respond when her role ended.
Jodie had spent 12 years progressing through business analysis, project and portfolio management, and delivery leadership. Before redundancy, she had joined Bold Moves, worked on her LinkedIn profile and begun building recruiter relationships. Two weeks after redundancy, she moved into a fixed-term role.
Her story includes the shock of losing a role, the value of relationships and a shift in how she thought about permanent work and contracting. The two-week timeline reflects Jodie’s individual experience, with preparation that began before redundancy.

The preparation started before redundancy
Jodie had already been working on how she presented her experience and connected with recruiters. When redundancy happened, she could draw on that groundwork. Listen for the actions that might be useful in your own situation, while recognising that every career move has different circumstances and timing.
Rethinking a linear career
The conversation explores Jodie’s interest in a portfolio career and her changing attitude towards contracting. She reflects on what she would do differently earlier in her career, why curiosity matters and what she enjoys about her next chapter.
We also discuss her perspective on AI, the changing work available to people and the data, processes and human expertise organisations need. These are parts of her experience and outlook, rather than a prediction that every role or organisation will change in the same way.
